19-12-2025 – Discussion Session – Bondi Incident – QA with community leaders
RE: Discussion Session – Bondi Incident – Q&A
Salaam Alaykum,
We have received some feedback from various sources that our youth and in particular our younger sisters who wear the hijab, are concerned about the reaction they may face in public. Also, we understand our younger brothers are concerned about being targeted by authorities.
Yesterday we met with NSW Police liaison officers and we can assure you that the NSW Police is equally focused on ensuring the safety for all members of the Muslim community and have provided us with contacts to escalate any matters.
In light of this, we have arranged an Open Session for all youth, (u16 must be accompanied by parents) and anyone who wishes to participate to discuss the situation and any concerns they may have. It will be held on Friday 19th December 2025 at 7.00PM ending with Maghrib prayers.
Sheikh Muhammad Abbas Virjee will host the session with Assistant Senior Community Liaison Officer of the Australian Federal Police, Moody Rashed, and psychologist Brother Ejaz Karimyar. They will answer any questions or point our youth in the right direction.
We will not let the actions of “rogues” define who we are as Muslims, and we should take comfort from the actions of Br. Ahmed al Ahmed and his brave actions.
We will always offer our condolences to people who face tragedy and feel their pain and loss, as we have with the Jewish community, but we should not and will not apologise or be made to feel guilty for the action of individuals who do not represent us.
